On Thursday, 3rd July 2025, the Dr. Uzor Cares Foundation fulfilled its financial pledge to the family of Emmanuel Chimaobi Ezi, a WAEC candidate and student of Community Secondary School, Umana Ndiagu, who tragically fell victim to kidnapping and ritual killing at Umuojo, Isiagu, Umumba Community in Ezeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State.

It will be recalled that during the funeral Mass held on 21st June 2025 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Agba Umana, and officiated by the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Most Rev. Dr. Ernest Obodo, the Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government Council, Dr. Vita Ndu, announced the Foundation’s intention to support the bereaved family with a ₦500,000 grant.

With the full approval of its Board of Trustees, the Foundation formally redeemed this pledge. A cheque of ₦500,000 was presented to the family in the presence of community leaders. Given that the family has no bank account, the cheque was issued in the name of Rev. Fr. Ojukwu Clifford Okwudili, Parish Priest of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Agba Umana, who received it on behalf of the family. The Foundation expressed confidence in the priest’s ability to transparently manage the funds for the benefit of the family.

Also present at the presentation were:

  • Mrs. Ezi Chinenye, mother of the deceased
  • Mr. Anozie Linus, representative of Agba Umana Town Union
  • Mr. Ugwu Vitalis, representative of Community Secondary School, Umana Ndiagu, and one of Chimaobi’s teachers

Speaking at the event, Rev. Fr. Ojukwu conveyed heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Uzor Cares Foundation for its compassion.

“We are deeply grateful to Dr. Uzor Cares Foundation for standing with the family at such a painful time. This gesture is both timely and humane,” he said.

Through this intervention, the Foundation aims to ease the immediate financial burden on the grieving family while reaffirming its mission to uplift the most vulnerable in society.

The Board of Trustees of Dr. Uzor Cares Foundation extended its condolences to the Ezi family and prayed for the peaceful repose of young Chimaobi’s soul.

“Ozo emena! IJN.”
