In a powerful demonstration of compassion and community service, the Dr. Uzor Cares Foundation has come to the rescue of a struggling family by clearing the outstanding medical bill of Mrs. Ifunanya Okolo, a patient who underwent a major surgery but was stranded at the hospital due to financial constraints.

Mrs. Okolo, a native of Awha Ndi Agu and wife of Mr. Gerald Okolo of Ogwofia, Imezi Owa in Ezeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State, had undergone a major surgery for Uterine Fibroids at Redeemer Maternity Hospital, Abakpa Nike, Enugu, on March 22, 2025. Although discharged on April 17, 2025, she remained in the hospital due to her inability to offset a ₦380,000 bill.

Moved by her situation, the Dr. Uzor Cares Foundation stepped in and presented a cheque of ₦200,000 to the hospital on May 5, 2025. During the cheque presentation, the Foundation, through its representative, Barr. Peter Aniagboso, appealed to the hospital’s Administrator, Mrs. Ibeh Charity, for a waiver of the remaining ₦180,000.

In a show of goodwill, Mrs. Ibeh granted the request and waived the balance, saying:
“What we do in this hospital is to save life before money.”

Speaking emotionally, Mrs. Okolo said:
“I am overwhelmed with joy and relieved that I can finally go home, reunite with my family and resume my normal life. May God bless Dr. Uzor Cares Foundation and everyone who helped me.”

Her husband, Mr. Gerald Okolo, echoed her sentiments:
“We are overwhelmed with gratitude. We pray that God will continue to prosper the Foundation with an abundance of His favour and blessings.”

Barr. Aniagboso, while presenting the cheque, commended the hospital staff and management for their dedication to saving lives and thanked them for their cooperation.

Also in attendance were Hon. Mrs. Uche Eze, Secretary of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees; Mr. Jideofor Chijioke, a Board Member; and Mrs. Chinaza Obiugo, a Foundation staff member.

The gesture adds to the growing list of charitable interventions by Dr. Uzor Cares Foundation, an organisation known for “leveraging networks of friendship and goodwill” to uplift vulnerable members of society.

The Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to its mission of “lifting the people”, with Secretary Hon. Uche Eze noting that this is just one of many such acts aimed at bringing relief and restoring hope.

The intervention not only reunited Mrs. Okolo with her family but also reminded the community that kindness, when backed by action, can change lives.
